Joséphine is a modern bistro located on Spring Street in the heart of Charleston’s newest “restaurant row” in the Cannonborough-Elliotborough neighborhood, Joséphine’s chic and sophisticated interiors serve as the perfect backdrop to the innovative and seasonal cuisine created by Executive Chef Shaun Connolly. Combining locally sourced ingredients with bold, global flavors, Chef Connolly’s modern dishes capture the flavors of the season and pair beautifully with our wines and expertly crafted cocktails.
Our wine list focuses on small production wines from France and throughout the world. Providing unparalleled value, we source wines from small, family-operated wineries that are farmed sustainably or biodynamically and which carry no additives or pesticides. Like our food program, our wines are designed to add to the dining experience by allowing guests to try the unexpected whether that be a new varietal or region, and to explore new flavors and tastes.
Serving dinner nightly, we are also available for private and semi-private parties and events.
QUI EST JOSÉPHINE?
The name “Joséphine” is inspired by Empress Joséphine de Beauharnais, Napoleon Bonaparte’s first wife, who is said to have owned the best wine collection of her time. An avid collector, the Empress entertained often with a vast cellar of Grand Crus and wines from around the globe. An inventory taken after her death in 1814 found a predominance of Bordeaux in the 13,286-bottle list, surprising as it was thought to be a lesser wine to Burgundy at the time.
